It’s been all the buzz the past few months, pandemic flu. What is it, may it affect you, how do you prepare when and if it does happen?
Pandemic flu is a global outbreak of disease that occurs when a new influenza A virus appears or “emerges” in the human population, causes serious illness, and then spreads easily from person to person worldwide. Past influenza pandemics have led to high levels of illness, death, social disruption, and economic loss including the 1918 Spanish flu which is the largest one on record with 40-50 million fatalities worldwide and 400,000-500,000 in the USA. Seasonal influenza currently causes approximately 36,000 fatalities in the USA each year. Read more.
